Coco Jones’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” to help kick off Super Bowl LX gave us goosebumps, but so did the support of her fiancé, Donavan Mitchell. The Cleveland Cavaliers player was right by her side, embracing her and showering her with kisses after the exceptional performance, on her biggest stage yet.
The singer appeared emotional after the performance, so it was beautiful to see her man envelop her in love on the field at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Both the performance and Jones’s outfit paid homage to Black culture, with her outfit honoring the late Whitney Houston, who performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl in January 1991. The 28-year-old’s outfit, designed by Karl Kani, featured a white jacket with red, black, and green on one arm, all of which are part of the Pan-African flag.

Jones and Mitchell first connected in 2023 at a networking event for creatives. Two years was enough to know they were in it for the long haul. They announced their engagement in July 2025. The announcement, which came via an Instagram post, showed the couple in an undisclosed tropical location, walking hand in hand, before Mitchell dropped down to one knee to propose.
It came as a surprise to many, considering the couple were tight-lipped about their courtship and Jones only confirmed they were together on the Club Shay Shay podcast in March 2025. The privacy is intentional, which is understandable given that life as a celebrity means constant surveillance and scrutiny.
“Secrecy is not what I prefer. I don’t want to feel like I have to be somebody’s secret,” she told Sharpe in 2025. “I don’t want to make anybody feel like they’re mine. For me, I’m trying to protect myself, and I’m trying to protect my family and those I love, so I am more private.”

Here and there, Jones and Mitchell share glimpses of their love with us, from being silly on the sidelines at his NBA games to gushing about one another and sharing plans for their upcoming nuptials.
“We both go really hard for the things we love, and they’re demanding careers,” Jones told PEOPLE in January. “I feel like we speak a different language that makes me really feel seen. And he’s my biggest cheerleader, so I feel like I’m never able to doubt myself in his presence. It’s just not going down like that.”
Wedding planning is progressing at their own pace, but as usual, the couple plans to keep their special moment reasonably private.
“If it was up to me, y’all wouldn’t know,” Jones said. “But I have to give a little because that ain’t right. It’s mostly going to be private and intimate and with a sprinkle of sharing is caring.”
